15 years after having abandoned the game, I happened to be playing preconstructed MTG theme decks during lunch at work. More precisely: tuning 40-cards decks (+ sideboard) out of every 60-cards preconstructed deck package. It was big fun, bringing back exciting memories after all those years ...
I had also been spending a decent amount of time constructing/improving 11 purely Fourth + Fifth Edition ('Vintage' format) 60-cards concept decks (exclusively using these 1995 .. 1997 card sets because of my and my regular opponent's card availability limitations): 'BloodyStrike', 'BurningAtog', 'CounterFish', 'CrazyRainbow', 'CreepyNightmare', 'FreezingSiren', 'LonelyMill', 'ManaForce', 'RoyalDiscard', 'SacriLord', and 'UrzaBomber'. After that, I constructed another 11 ('Legacy' restricted) 40-cards (i.e. prototype only) proxy decks, thereby widening the range of contributing core/expansion card sets, nicely fitting my remaining colored protective card sleeves reserve. I happily switched to Magic Assistant deck building software while I was at it. On 2013-08-02, this software helped me reviewing all (at that time approximately 13250) existing Magic cards (on which I spent 3+ weeks full-vacation-time). I retained around 2000 useful cards for full Legacy deck construction purposes, in the meantime accumulating heuristics towards a deck evaluation rule base. During November 2013, I started constructing my Legacy fun/theme decks, their core strategies having been triggered by Progenitus, Seismic Assault, Jace's Erasure, Sleeper Agent, Salvage Titan, and Invisible Stalker, respectively. In July 2014, I built my first competitive (Return to Ravnica block / M14 / Theros block / M15) Standard (rogue) deck, featuring a.o. Elvish Mystic, Agent of the Fates, Gods Willing, and the necessary 'shock lands', for maximum (mini-ramping and) aggression via low mana curve (i.e. all cards lower than converted mana cost 4).
After the Khans of Tarkir release (at the end of September 2014), I decided to primarily stick to 'limited' events (still briefly jumping into preparation-intensive 'constructed' events). One year later (right before the Battle for Zendikar release), I quit 'constructed' events completely, eventually (around April 2016) cranking up my 'limited' events to weekly occurrences, performing reasonably well in the Demo-Spel Draft League. I quit playing Magic (again) half 2018 for personal reasons, right after Dominaria ... but happily restarted at Ravnica Allegiance !
In order to gain a deeper understanding of the game, I passed all Level 1 Judge practice exams ... and, yes, after numerous trials even the 'Hard Practice' exam. I was a Rules Advisor for 3 consecutive years, until that program became discontinued early 2016.
In 2020, due to the pandemic eliminating face-to-face play, I started playing on the online Arena platform. The highest (non-paying) rank I reached until now is Platinum Tier 3 (during 11/2020).
