Settlers of Catan


The 'Settlers of Catan' board game (by Klaus Teuber, 1995) is a turn-based multiplayer game (preferably played by 4 people), whereby participants gain victory points upon building roads, settlements, and cities. This is achieved by spending differently typed tradable resources, that are initially acquired by rolling the dice. You can get a good feel for this game without actually buying it by completing the excellent Settlers of Catan board game tutorial. One game session typically lasts a couple of hours (especially when still learning the game). Several game expansions are commercially available.

The 'Settlers of Catan' card game (also by Klaus Teuber, 1996) is roughly based on the same principles as the board game (turn-based, resource trading, etc.), although its feel is quite different (being designed for 2 players only).
