Humbeekse Schaakclub

I accidentally learned how to play chess in 1978 (at age 11) and became hooked shortly thereafter. I joined the Humbeekse Schaakclub and remained there until I quit the game in 1991 (upon finishing my university studies). My highest ELO rating was 1946 (after having played 59 official games on 1989-03-08). I finally stranded with an ELO rating of 1838 (totaling 69 official games on 1991-03-08). I enjoyed various chess formats, in particular the 5-minute blitz setting (reaching 4th place in the Belgian championship in 1981).

I would like to thank Hugo Vansteenwinckel (longtime president of the Humbeekse Schaakclub), who (after all these years) still manages to remain one of the major driving forces behind youth chess in Belgium. Hats off !

In 2016, after multiple relocations, 'Humbeekse Schaakclub' was renamed 'Schaakkring Het Wit Paard'. Its new location: Kapelle-op-den-Bos (and here on Faceboook).
