VBL stands for 'Vlaamse Bridge Liga' (Flemish Bridge League), which is the official bridge organization for Flanders (i.e. the Dutch speaking part of Belgium). Please, visit the VBL website (in Dutch) for more information.
I was a VBL member (#21880) since I learned the game in 1996. More specifically, I was an individual VBL member (i.e. without specific club affiliation) since 2001.
After having followed an introductory course by Joris Vandenborre at B.C. Pieterman (in Leuven), I remained there for the next 4 years, participating in weekly club tournaments and in the official IMP teams competition. During that time, I mostly partnered Werner Rau. We applied our own variation on the Dutch ACOL bidding system, strongly influenced by Berry Westra's 'Bieden met Berry' books.
I scored reasonably well on the VBL's 'BridgeKontakt' bidding polls (3rd place overall), until the magazine ceased to exist in 2007. I even managed to take 1st place in 2003:
